Who is behind Sassy, Crassy & Creative?
Carol Armstrong, Owner/President
Carol is the founder and President of Sassy, Crassy & Creative and has been dabbling in all sorts of artistic/creative design hobbies for most of her life. She was inspired by both her late maternal grandma and her late mom, each of whom modeled creativity that would lead to ways for pursuing this outlet. It wasn't until early 2021 when she acquired her first Cricut machine that things began to change. Instead of hand-painting signs for unique gifts and decor, she was able to use her new "toy" to cut out the designs and then time was transformed - the creative world expanded and exploded!
Working in education as a middle school teacher for the past 20 years (now retired since the end of the 2023 SY), Carol sharpened her sense of humor and appreciation of sarcastic wit that came along with spending days with eighth graders and her like-minded teacher friends. Additionally, when working with adolescents, there was the need for a well-developed filter to keep internal comments from rushing out. Most of what was captured in the filter has inspired areas of her work.
Carol's friends were the first recipients of her items as gifts and the biggest cheerleaders, along with her husband, Ted, for continuing her venture into this business. She enjoys being creative and making people laugh as a result of her ridiculousness and lighthearted nonsense. Shenanigans is a word that is often connected to her.
Carol says the best part of the Sassy, Crassy & Creative business is that it's never mundane because the creative world has so many variations. "I enjoy finding treasures in odd places to upcycle or design into a new life. It's also fun to test out techniques or tools that I've acquired for a particular idea that inspires me. I'm constantly thinking about and developing special products to sell. Additionally, I'm fortunate to be surrounded by the work of incredibly talented artisan crafters. The shoppe wouldn't be what it is without all of these wonderful people. My days making my own creations and being at the shoppe are always interesting. Listening to music while I work and engaging with customers makes the time truly enjoyable."
Denise Dickenson, Vice President
Denise is the Vice President of Sassy, Crassy & Creative and the Senior Director of Stitching and Snark, where she oversees needle arts with attitude. Whether it is a bag for wine, a mischievous motto on a hand towel, or a sarcastic statement embroidered, framed and ready to hang on your wall, Denise will ensure the gift item for either you or your friend is just right.
Denise loves to produce designs that are fun, colorful and sometimes more than a little naughty. Growing up with a mother and sister who are avid knitters and stitchers, the crafts didn’t appeal to her until she discovered a “Cocktails, Stitch and Bitch” group. This provided an outlet for her to express her inner monologue, and a relief valve from her corporate career. Now, she embraces embroidery as a new art form for badass folks who don’t give a stitch.

Denise loves engaging with customers when she's at the shoppe, sharing laughs, swapping stories, and helping shoppers find the perfect sassy or snarky piece to brighten their day. Her bubbly personality and clever banter make every interaction a delight, and she genuinely enjoys hearing customer feedback—especially when it comes to brainstorming new, cheeky designs. Even though she’s not in the shop all the time, if you’re lucky enough to stop by on a Saturday, you just might get to experience her infectious energy firsthand!
